Get Ready For The Consecration To Saint Joseph!

I imagine Saint Joseph reciting Psalm 62:1 as he trusted God’s calling to be a holy spouse to Mary, and a loving father to Our Lord: “For God alone, my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.”

We don’t ever hear him speak in the Bible, so he is often forgotten. But if only you knew how wonderful he is. 

Here are some fun facts about St. Joseph: 

1. He was obedient to God’s will even if it made no sense to him at the moment 
2. He trusted God wholeheartedly
3. Saint Joseph guided Mary and Jesus at all cost
4. He is the patron of the universal church
5. He is the terror of demons
6. St. Joseph was hardworking 
7. He is often depicted with lilies because he represents purity and holiness 
8. St. Joseph was a loving husband 
9. He always defended his family 
10. We are living the first year ever dedicated to St Joseph

Let’s take a second to realize how challenging it must’ve been to be in Saint Joseph’s shoes. 

A Trip Back In Time

You are a Jewish man in the first century AD. You betrothed to a young lady, but you find out she is pregnant when you meet her. The law says you shouldn’t marry her. At the same time, you know she’s a good woman. So what do you do? Do you leave in the middle of the night to avoid drama? 

Well, amidst this, you have a dream where God tells you to stay with this kind pregnant woman. As an obedient and God-fearing man, you stay and take care of her. 

Soon after, you are told to flee because the baby is in danger. You don’t have a car, but you manage to gather your things and leave for safety. 

You’re a carpenter, so you must work hard every day to provide for your new family. 

Wow. 

How many men would do all that? My guess is not many, if at all, and I don’t blame them. It is a difficult situation. 

Nevertheless, Joseph stayed with Mary and helped raise Jesus 🙂 

Learning about St. Joseph

I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about St. Joseph, but I am excited to learn more and consecrate myself to him on his feast day, March 19th!! 

You see, I have a decade bracelet with St Joseph in the middle, but I thought it was Jesus for the longest time. One day a friend saw it and pointed out that it was St Joseph-oops! 

A few days later, we heard that Pope Francis declared this liturgical year the Year of Saint Joseph; how formidable is that? 

My friend who works for a church told me she would be doing short videos every month to talk about St Joseph throughout the year, and in her latest one, she mentioned doing the consecration on St Joseph’s feast day. 

I consecrated myself to Our Lady of Guadalupe this past December 12th, and it was a heart-opening experience. I look forward to doing the same with our lord’s earthly father. 

In her video, my friend mentioned that it would be great to be consecrated to the Holy family since they can bring unity to their son, Jesus Christ. Ahhh, I am so excited just writing about it!
