10 Great Catholic Bible Verses to Find Peace

It is a blessing to have the Word of God a click of a button away. You pop open the Bible, and there you will find comforting words. You might not always understand what you are reading, but the Holy Spirit will always be there to assist you. This post will focus on the different passages that speak about Peace: something a world full of chaos needs.

Peace: In the Crazy but Not Crazy

1. “Happy are those who love you, and happy are those who rejoice in your peace. Happy too are all who grieve over all your afflictions, For they will rejoice over you and behold all your joy forever.” Tobit 13: 14

The book of Tobit is breathtaking! This verse does a beautiful job of emphasizing the necessity to connect our souls with God’s being. We should desire to know the pain it causes Him to see His children suffer. Here we can learn that happiness is genuinely momentarily. It can come and go depending on what is happening now. If God is our focus at all times, then happiness with follow us through our days. How amazing is that?

2. “But whoever obeys me dwells in security, in peace, without fear of harm.” Proverbs 1:33

Similarly, this verse from the book of Proverbs reminds us that God hopes we stay in His presence to experience the goodness He can offer us. When we are at peace, we forget about our fears and worries. We can live bravely and freely through trust in the Lord. Following God’s rules is the key to true freedom. Can you name all ten commandments?

3. “In peace, I will lie down and fall asleep, for you alone, Lord, make me secure.” Psalm 4:9

Nights before an exam, presentation, or upcoming bills when you’re on a budget are dreadful. But if you hand your anxiety to God and let Him take over, you will find that sleeping is easy. Sleeping like a baby is a beautiful expression because if you’ve ever held a sleepy baby, you can admire that tranquility released as his or her eyes doze off. Everything becomes nice and quiet. That sweet baby surrenders everything and very vulnerably lays himself or herself in your arms. You wouldn’t want anything wrong to happen to that baby, so echoing the words of Jesus, how much more does your Heavenly Father want that for you?

4. “I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them. I will multiply them and put my sanctuary among them forever.” Ezekiel 37: 26

Wow. These words from God should snuggle your heart and release all stress off your shoulders. God wants everlasting peace. He hopes you respond to this gift of love so He can shower you with goodness. He is with us always!

5. “Learn where prudence is, where strength, where understanding; That you may know also where are length of days, and life, where light of the eyes, and peace.” Burach 3: 14

Peace is something to be obtained. We can quickly think that stress is a cure or punishment, but that is not always the case. The Holy Spirit wants to teach us how to seek moments of peace. This world might be messy, but we are not meant to go through it alone. We have each other to help in the good and the bad. Remember that perfection is not expected. All you need is an open heart willing to learn.

6. “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of food and drink, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit…” Romans 14: 17

Saint Paul beautifully explains that being part of God’s kingdom is more than physical needs. We need to polish our attitudes towards life and others before the desires of our bodies. When our minds are clean, the body functions better. We can better help our neighbors when our beings desire the Will of God instead of focusing on the selfish needs the world wants us to pay attention to. Seek peace, especially if you don’t feel like it.

7. “Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” Luke 12:51

This might sound contradictory to all the other verses we’ve read, but it is not. Our God is a God of peace. He longs for His people to be in harmony and stress-free, but He will not put up with foolish behavior. It would be contrary to His nature to allow sin to reign in the heart of His creation. As we’ve talked about before, we are broken human beings with distorted desires. We long for love, but how often do we look for it in the wrong places? Far too many for more of us. This is what Jesus means in this passage: seek heavenly things and don’t be complacent with things that appear good in the eyes of the world.

8. “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace.” James 3: 18

Cultivate is an interesting word. It can mean “to prepare and use” or “try to acquire.” Saint James tells us that peace is something to be developed. We must work hard to live an honorable, peaceful life to keep the peace. It seems obvious, but it is important to remember just that when we feel overwhelmed or stressed. Having hope makes it easier to remain in a peaceful state of mind. After all, Jesus promised eternal life for those who love Him, so if you do that, you should be good. (Sort of!)

9. “At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it.” Hebrews 12: 11

The Author of the letter to the Hebrews has a similar teaching to Saint James: righteousness and peace are experienced by those who live their lives according to the Will of God. Life is a constant journey of decision-making. Through our free will, we can choose the right or wrong path. Thankfully, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us toward the most favorable option, but we will never be forced to make a decision. Jesus Christ was willing to suffer unjustly for our salvation out of love. Are we willing to sacrifice the empty desires of the world for eternal peace?

10. “Those whom the Lord protects; yours is the life of my spirit. You have given me health and restored my life! Peace in place of bitterness! You have preserved my life from the pit of destruction; Behind your back, you cast all my sins.” Isaiah 38: 16-17

Ah, this passage from the prophet Isaiah is fantastic. Don’t you wish these words would slip out of your lips? This is a beautiful prayer that personally comes close to being as powerful as the Magnificate. God restores us in unthinkable ways and helps us enjoy the goodness in life. We might still struggle, but knowing God is with us should calm our troubled hearts and give us peace.
